I grew up in Breaux Bridge in the 1960's but haven't been back for ages. Back then, the drinking age was if you were able to reach high enough to put your quarter on the counter.

Love the Crawfish Festival! The only drawback is that it coincides with Jazz Fest so I only go every other year or so.

Yeah, that's Parc Hardy. They can afford to charge because there are people willing to pay to get in. I think $15 will get you a weekend pass this year.

I asked my mom if she went this weekend, and she said the traffic is always so bad, she avoids Breaux Bridge entirely during the festival weekend.

I read somewhere that back in the wild days (early 90s), the Festival used to get 300k people. Now it's closer to 25k.

I remember when I used to work special events for Lafayette Coke (working football games, festivals and doing deliveries for those types of events) that the festival was held in a big park across from the Winn-Dixie in BB. At the time you could walk into the festival and then pay for the crawfish what whatnot. By the time I graduated college and left Coke three years later, the city had built a tall fence around the park and started charging just for the privilege of being able to get in and pay for some crawfish. Now that's an awesome business model!

I think it's a trend for festivals now, as I heard the last time I was there that my hometown festival, the Cracklin Festival, now charges to get in....

If only there were jobs back home, I'd be back there in a second. I noticed last night that the Crawfish Festival was going on, so I cranked out a weekend post.

Isn't that this weekend? I had some good times at the Crawfish Festival. Damn I miss Louisiana. I will be back home next weekend, but all that does is remind me how much I want to move back.

The closest we ever got to going to the crawfish festival was getting caught in traffic for about four hours just trying to get there. My parents gave up and for the rest of my childhood all I got to do was watch stories about it on the news.

This always seemed to be the number one fest in Louisiana, after Mardi Gras.
